ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Groups

As with other ICC tournaments, all major cricketing nations will participate in the Champions Trophy, based on the qualification criteria established by the ICC. Eight teams have qualified for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and will be divided into two groups.

The tournament will include eight teams, the same as in the 2017 edition, but this time Afghanistan has qualified ahead of Sri Lanka. The teams are divided into two groups:

  • Group A: India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Bangladesh
  • Group B: South Africa, Australia, Afghanistan, England

ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Venue

The matches for the Champions Trophy in Pakistan will be held in three cities: Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi.

The National Stadium in Karachi and the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore are currently undergoing major renovations in preparation for the tournament.

These venues will be put to the test during a pre-tournament tri-series featuring Pakistan, New Zealand, and South Africa, which will help evaluate the stadiums’ enthusiasm.

ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Opening Ceremony

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to launch the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy with a special event in Lahore on February 16.

However, due to logistical issues, there will be no captains’ meeting or press conference. This also puts to rest any speculation about India’s captain Rohit Sharma traveling to Pakistan for the event.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) President Mohsin Naqvi has announced that renowned Pakistani artists Ali Zafar, Aima Baig, and Arif Lohar will take the stage at the opening ceremony of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which is set to kick off at 7 PM.

Alongside Lahore, the National Stadium in Karachi will also host an opening ceremony on February 11. The PCB has emphasized significant enhancements at Gaddafi Stadium, featuring upgraded floodlights, a larger seating capacity, and a cutting-edge electronic scoreboard.

ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Format

During the round-robin group stage, each team will compete against every other team in its group once.

The top two teams from each group will then move on to the semi-finals. The semi-final matchups will feature A1 against B2 and B1 against A2.

  • If India makes it to the semi-finals, their match will take place in Dubai on March 4, regardless of their standing in the points table.
  • If Pakistan qualifies, their semi-final will be held in Lahore on March 5.
  • The final is scheduled for March 9 in Lahore, but if India reaches the final, the match will be relocated to Dubai.

ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Schedule

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the fixtures and groupings for the Champions Trophy 2025 on December 24, 2024, revealing that the tournament will begin on February 19 in Karachi. This eight-team competition will consist of 15 matches, taking place in both Pakistan and Dubai.
